A deepfake — or AI clone — is content or an account that copies a real creator with AI: face-swapped videos that put your face on someone else's body, re-skinned versions of your own videos, AI-generated nudes, or "AI girlfriend" and chatbot accounts built from your photos, your name and your persona to sell access to fans. Creators are an easy target — hundreds of public photos to train on and an audience that already pays. The harm is double: lost income and a reputation attached to content you never made. The legal ground is better than most creators think: copyright covers the material the clone was built from, platforms ban impersonation, and since May 19, 2026 the U.S. TAKE IT DOWN Act forces covered platforms to remove intimate digital forgeries within 48 hours of a valid request.

Some fake accounts copy your photos — or an AI-generated version of your face or voice — and message your fans asking for money, gift cards or "exclusive" content. If it happens:
- Report the account to the platform as impersonation; most large platforms have a dedicated form.
- Warn your audience from your official account: say which account is yours and that you never ask for payments by message.
- Keep evidence: the profile URL, screenshots with the date and any messages fans forward to you.
